The End is Near
I
had a hard time with the title for today, Almost Home, The End is Near, Don’t
Freak Out, or What the Hell Did I Get Into. They all fit!
I
wish I remembered when I actually started to write my first book. It had been
running around in my head for a while before I first started to write it down. I
know it is less than three years, so maybe around 2 years.
Even
when I started to write, I had some desire to publish. That really was not the
end goal in my writing. Now less than 2 weeks from today, 13 days to be exact,
I will be officially published.
This
week I was able to get my ARC set up, and people actually downloaded my book.
It was a sort of moment of freak out for me. Sure, I knew people would read it,
but now people were actually reading it. Yes, if you publish, people will read
your book. They will form opinions on it, and they might even review it. Not
everyone will like it.
I
think the biggest fear everyone has is a failure. None of us like to be told our
work is no good. I ran into that when I was doing photography. My main focus
was doing photogenic pageant photography. When I first submitted photos to
judges for this, I was so nervous. Sometimes I would win, but that was because
I was going against people who used a cell phone. Yes, I am serious.
When
I started to compete against some actual nationally known photographers, I was
creamed. Still, eventually, I began to win against them. Well, my pictures did.
It felt great. Then I ran into one pageant mom who was never happy. She was
trashing my work regularly. It bothered me, but I kept going. The moral of the
story, not everyone will be happy all the time.
Now,
circle back to books. Yeah, I am still freaked out. I talked to a lady who has
been published several times, and she said she still freaks out. I guess that
is a good thing. Yeah, I am sure I will have a couple of weeks of wondering,
but I am happy in the end.
