The Inspection Incident

This story was passed along to me by a young lady who I shared some time at boot camp with. She was kind enough to all me to use it and also provided her pictures. So, thank you Seaman Recruit Sheets. I hope I can get her to share more stories too...

Now a little background about the female companies at RTC. The female companies did stay in the same buildings as the male companies, but they were on the third floor of those buildings. There was also a non-fraternization rule that was enforced. If you were caught, it was two-weeks to the rear. Meaning you got to repeat 2 weeks of boot camp. So, 10 weeks instead of 8 weeks.

Although it was common for a male and female compies to be brothers and sisters. Their contact was restricted. My own Company has a sister company, and we shared the same training days. We shared classrooms and also did our work week together. Even with all that, we were still not allowed to talk to the girls. I’ll cover that in a different post.

So, this young lady was talking about how her Company was having one of its dress inspections. The girls were getting their uniforms from the hooks near the windows. Several of them were in their underwear. Their female CC came into the compartment and told them, “Get away from the windows!”

It happened that a male company had been marching and had stopped on the sidewalk outside their window. And that same Company was facing the building. Now, odds are it was hard to actually see in the windows, but you never know.

I spoke to this lady about it for a while. We both found out she was in the same wing of the same division I was actually in. There is a slight change, that was my Company down on the sidewalk. Now, I would love to say yeah, that was our Company and we had a good show, but I cannot. It would make the story far much better if it was.

It was fun talking to her. She arrived at RTC about a month after I did. I do remember when the original Company of girls left. They were about a month ahead of us. They teased us, new guys, all the time. I helped do a field day of that compartment just before the new Company arrived. I also remember when they did. We were excited that there were new girls upstairs.

I am sure we harassed them as well. It was all part of the fun. So, I want to thank the then, Seaman Recruit Sheets for allowing me to share her story.

Oh yeah, her CC’s were mean and never let them visit the Geedunk machines. She also told me the last week they were at RTC, each girl in the Company received one Smartie per day. She didn’t think it was fair we got to visit the Geedunk machines. But, that is for another story…..
